The mistela de muscatel is a variety of mistela that is made from muscatel grapes. It is a sweet and aromatic drink, very popular in some wine regions of Spain, such as the Valencian Community and Catalonia.
To make the muscatel mistela, the unfermented muscatel grape must is mixed with added wine alcohol from the grapes, with a minimum graduation of 15 degrees. In this way, the must is prevented from fermenting by preventing the yeasts from surviving as a result of the mixture with the wine alcohol.
The muscatel grape is a highly aromatic grape variety and therefore ideal for making mistela.
