In an exciting ceremony held on Tuesday, June 11 at the Alicante Archaeological Museum (MARQ), Bodegas Xaló won two important recognitions in the fifth edition of the ASPA Awards, organized by the Alicante Sommelier Association. These awards, which have established themselves as a benchmark in the Alicante Protected Designation of Origin (DOP), seek to highlight excellence in wine production in the region.
This year, Bodegas Xaló shone with its own light by obtaining the gold medal for its Bahía de Dénia Fermented in Barrel and the silver medal for mistela RIU RAU Muscatel. These awards underline the quality and continuous effort of the winery to offer products of the highest quality.
The 2024 edition of the ASPA Awards had a record participation of 120 wines, 30% more than the previous year, which highlights the growing competitiveness and quality of the wine sector in Alicante. In total, 22 wines were awarded, distributed in six categories: white, rosé, red, sweet, sparkling and Fondillón.
The gold medal obtained by Bahía de Dénia Fermented in Barrel confirms Bodegas Xaló's commitment to innovation and quality. This wine stands out for its elegance and complexity, the result of a careful fermentation process in barrels. On the other hand, the mistela RIU RAU Muscatel, awarded the silver medal, is a perfect example of the winery's tradition and know-how in the production of sweet wines.
The gala was attended by numerous authorities, including Toni Pérez, President of the Alicante Provincial Council, and José Juan Reus Reus, President of the Regulatory Council. During the event, Toni Pérez praised the effort and dedication of the Alicante wine sector, highlighting its ability to innovate and face current challenges, such as drought and commercial competition.
The president of ASPA, José Diego Ortega, also had words of gratitude for his predecessor, Pepe Guerrero, and for all the judges who have participated in this five-year period. In addition, tribute was paid to the veteran winemaker Primitivo Quiles, whose century-old winery in Monóver is an example of perseverance and tradition in the sector.
